SafeRide Health Credentialing for NEMT Providers
SafeRide publishes what it wants before you ever apply: $1M/$2M general liability, $500K auto liability, a named additional insured, and a driver file carrying a national background check and wheelchair securement training. We build that packet to the letter, submit it, and stay on it every week until you have a decision.
Quick Answer
SS Support Network prepares and submits your SafeRide Health credentialing packet: the company file, every driver file, and every vehicle file, built to the thresholds SafeRide states publicly on its own provider page. Those floors are $1 million commercial general liability per occurrence, $2 million aggregate, and at least $500,000 auto liability, with SafeRide named as additional insured on the certificate. Driver files call for a national criminal background check, a national sex offender registry check, a motor vehicle report, a pre-hire drug screen, and proof of first aid (or CPR or AED) training, defensive driver training, and wheelchair securement training. Once the packet clears, a SafeRide network vendor manager takes you through onboarding and then monitors whether you hold the five performance standards the broker requires to stay in the network. Our part is the paperwork: a packet complete on the first pass, certificate wording corrected before a reviewer sees it, deficiency notices answered inside the same week, and every expiry date on a calendar. We are a US-registered BPO in Vancouver, WA, founded in 2020, working 24/7 under HIPAA safeguards and a signed BAA. We are not affiliated with SafeRide Health, and every credentialing decision belongs to them.

The short answer
What does SafeRide Health actually ask for?
SafeRide sets out its provider requirements on a public page, insurance limits and driver screening included, before you submit anything. Use that. It means the file can be gap-checked in advance instead of guessed at. On its network page the company reports more than 900 NEMT partners across 48 states, over 12 million rides a year, and around 40 health plans and care organizations behind that volume. You're not enrolling under a single statewide Medicaid contract here. You're joining a network that supplies capacity to health plans, so the packet has to satisfy SafeRide first and the plan behind each trip second. Three document tracks, then onboarding with a network vendor manager, then a scorecard that decides whether you keep the work. Here's each track the way a reviewer reads it.
Track 1
The company file, and SafeRide's published insurance floors
SafeRide states its minimums in public: at least $1 million in commercial general liability per occurrence, $2 million in the aggregate, and at least $500,000 in auto liability, with SafeRide listed as additional insured on the certificate. Because those numbers are known rather than hidden behind a portal login, a rejected company file is almost always a wording problem, not a coverage problem. The certificate holder line names the wrong entity, the additional-insured endorsement never got attached, or the aggregate reads $1 million because nobody read the second number. Around the certificates sit your entity documents, W-9 and EIN letter, operating authority, NPI, Medicaid provider ID where the state issues one, and workers' compensation where your state requires it. Your carrier can reissue a certificate in a day; a reviewer's rejection costs you a week. We get the wording right before it goes in.
Track 2
The driver file, and the one word most providers miss
SafeRide names the driver documents it collects: driver's license, social security information, national background checks, national sex offender registry checks, motor vehicle reports, and pre-hire drug screenings. Training is spelled out too, as first aid (or CPR or AED) training, defensive driver training, and wheelchair securement training. Read that first line again. The parentheses are SafeRide's, and they mean one of the three satisfies the requirement. Fleets burn real money buying full CPR certification for twelve drivers when a first aid card would have cleared the file, and other fleets do the reverse, holding the training but never uploading the certificate that proves it. Either way the file waits. We collect each driver's documents, check them item by item against SafeRide's own list, and load the expiry dates into a calendar so a stale motor vehicle report doesn't pull a driver off the schedule mid-week.
Track 3
Vehicles, and the modality mix that decides your volume
Every unit needs current registration and documentation showing it sits on your insurance, plus whatever safety inspection your state requires. The part that shapes your revenue, though, is the mix. SafeRide asks partners to demonstrate multiple transportation modalities, meaning ambulatory, wheelchair or bariatric, and stretcher, because a health plan's ride demand doesn't sort itself neatly into whatever a single fleet happens to own. An ambulatory-only operator is perfectly credentialable. It just gets offered a narrower slice of what's actually moving in the market. Tell us the modalities you can genuinely staff and we'll build the roster to match, then keep it matched as you add and retire units, because a vehicle SafeRide doesn't have on file is a vehicle that can't legitimately carry a member.
Track 4
The five numbers SafeRide grades you on after approval
Approval is the start of the relationship, not the end of the work. SafeRide publishes five standards a provider has to keep hitting: a 100% ride response rate, a 95% ride acceptance rate, a 95% on-time performance rate, a complaints rate under 1%, and a kickback rate under 5%. Read the first and the last together, because they're the pair that catches people. Responding to every offer isn't the same as accepting it, and handing back a trip you already took is the metric with the tightest ceiling. Your network vendor manager watches all five continuously. Renewals sit on top of that: certificates lapse annually, screenings and inspections run on their own clocks, and providers almost never lose a SafeRide contract at the application stage. They lose it at a renewal nobody was tracking. We run yours as a calendar, with documents refreshed and filed before the date rather than after the deactivation email.
Tier 1 Supplier Network
What a good scorecard is actually worth
SafeRide runs a Tier 1 Supplier Network for its strongest partners, and the published benefits are worth reading before you apply, because they explain what the scorecard is for. Tier 1 providers get priority access to additional ride volume in the markets they want, dynamic pricing, vehicle and driver compliance support, a dedicated account manager, automated claims submission, and guaranteed payment turnaround times. That last pair is the one fleets underestimate. With this broker, how quickly you get paid is partly a function of how you operate, not only how you bill. Which makes a clean credentialing file and a solid first ninety days the shortest route to the tier where money moves faster. We check which SafeRide health-plan programs run in your counties during the free review, so you're not credentialing into a market with thin volume in the first place.
How it works
Three steps to a SafeRide Health decision
- 1
Free credentialing review
We check which SafeRide health-plan programs run your counties, then send the document checklist for the company, each driver, and each vehicle, with your current certificate of insurance marked up against SafeRide's published limits. Written back within 1 business day.
- 2
We prepare & submit
All three files assembled and gap-checked line by line against SafeRide's stated requirements, the additional-insured endorsement corrected, then submitted and carried through onboarding with your assigned network vendor manager.
- 3
Follow-up to a decision
Deficiency notices answered inside the same week and weekly status checks so nothing sits. Once you're approved we set up your provider account, add your dispatchers and drivers, and put every renewal date on a calendar.
Common questions
SafeRide Health credentialing, answered straight
You apply to the network, submit company, driver and vehicle documentation, pass credentialing review, then complete onboarding with a dedicated network vendor manager before you carry a trip. Because SafeRide publishes what it wants in each track, this is an application you can win on paperwork alone if the paperwork is right. We assemble the packet, check it line by line against SafeRide's stated requirements, and answer every deficiency notice so the file never sits waiting on you.
SafeRide publishes its floors: at least $1 million in commercial general liability per occurrence, $2 million in the aggregate, and at least $500,000 in auto liability, with SafeRide listed as additional insured on the certificate. Your state, or the health plan behind your trips, can require more than that, so treat the published numbers as the minimum rather than the target. Most rejections we see are wording rather than coverage, so we have the certificate reissued with the exact holder and additional-insured language before it goes in.
SafeRide reports a network of more than 900 NEMT partners across 48 states, delivering over 12 million rides a year for roughly 40 health plans and care organizations. The work is contracted plan by plan across Medicare Advantage and Medicaid managed care rather than through one statewide rulebook, which is why two providers in neighboring counties can see very different volume. We check which SafeRide programs run where you operate before you apply, so you are not credentialing into a market that has almost nothing moving.
SafeRide lists a driver's license, social security information, a national background check, a national sex offender registry check, a motor vehicle report, and a pre-hire drug screening, plus first aid (or CPR or AED) training, defensive driver training, and wheelchair securement training. The parentheses on that first training item are SafeRide's own, and they matter: one of the three clears it, so check before you buy certifications for a whole roster. We build each file, submit it, and track every expiry date.

SafeRide controls it, and the honest answer is that timing moves with how much capacity the network needs in your market. Nobody outside the broker can promise you a date, and anyone who does is guessing. What we hold up is our end of it: a packet that is complete on the first submission, deficiency responses inside the same week, and a weekly status check so the file is never waiting on something we could have sent.
Credentialing is billed hourly from $6/hr, or priced per application and per driver, quoted against your fleet size and how many brokers you are enrolling with at once. A ten-driver file with three modalities is a different job from a two-van ambulatory start-up, so we scope it rather than guess. Ask for a plan and we put it in writing, with no obligation.
